On March 26, 2019, Thomson Rogers’ medical malpractice lawyer, Aleks Mladenovic, was interviewed by CTV’s Ben Mulroney (watch the full interview above) on a case where two doctors (Dr. Donald Livingston and Dr. Martin Chapman) could be in trouble for allegedly ignoring patient’s wishes to stay alive.
Aleks comments:
“This case is an important case about some of our most medically vulnerable members of our society. At issue is whether a physician can unilaterally decide to counterman or override a substitute decision-maker’s choice and instructions that their family member receive life-saving care.
In this case, it was an 88-year-old World War 2 veteran, Douglas DeGuerre, who passed away after a doctor unilaterally decided that he should not receive life-saving care despite the pleas and entreaties of his daughter who was also a registered nurse who was there at the time that this man passed away.”
